I believe that our passions will determine our actions.
That’s why I love this picture of Drew Brees and his son, Baylen. Most people would be chomping at the bits to get-a-hold of the Lombardi Trophy and hoist it in the air to celebrate their teams victory. Drew’s passion for his son and his family drove him to hoist his trophy, Baylen, into the air in celebration before all else.
I don’t believe you can be a loving parent and not treasure your children. I think Drew understands that the trophy is insignificant compared to the importance of his son. Silver and Gold will all deteriorate and pass away, but what he leads his son to, will last forever.
I hear people say things like “God will open the windows of Heaven and pour you out a blessing that you cannot contain” all of the time. Is it Biblical? Sure! Is it accurate in their use of the verse? I guess it depends on who you ask. The poorest of the poor in America would be considered middle class in a lot of poor countries. What more wealth do we need? How has God NOT blessed us? Ephesians 1:3 says that through Christ we have been given every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. The older I get the more I realize what matters the most in my life. I would trade a million dollars in a heartbeat for a healthy family. I wouldn’t trade all of the possessions, status, pleasure, or wealth in the world for my family. Are there times I put them on the back-burner? Yes, I am guilty. But my desire is to make them the trophy of my life. Funny, how a picture can say a thousand words, isn’t it?
